About Us
International Projects Office (IPO) supports academicians of Istanbul University with all administrative processes of their international projects, from the conceptualization to the successful completion IPO aims to increase the number and quality of EU-funded and other international projects, to strengthen the scientific outputs, and to develop the recognition and awareness of the Istanbul University sustainably at national and international levels in the projects and collaborations related to the grants and supports by the EU and international organizations. With its deep knowledge and experience in research management, IPO undertakes activities and initiatives to broaden and deepen research infrastructure through research projects, trainings, and seminars.
There are 47 ongoing and 70 completed EU and other international projects, equal to 117 EU and other international projects in total, within the University. These projects are based on 3 HORIZON EUROPE, 11 HORIZON2020, and 20 other projects from previous framework programs of the EU along with the 26 ERASMUS+ projects (most of them are KA2) and 8 IPA projects coordinated by the Central Finance and Contracts Unit of the Republic of Türkiye and 39 other international projects based on specific bilateral agreements. Moreover, at the national level, the University has over 1000 ongoing projects and the projects supported by the University are more than 10.000.
In this regard, IPO provides comprehensive and extensive support in the application, project, and contract management of internationally funded projects. The administration of international projects in IPO is divided into two processes including pre-award and post-award.
Pre-award
Project proposal development: Providing support and guidance to researchers in shaping and developing research projects, including feedback and editing of the project proposal along with coaching and budget preparation to ensure that project proposals meet standards of quality and compliance.
Funding source exploration: Exploring and identifying various funding sources such as Horizon Europe and Erasmus to sustain research initiatives, including matching suitable calls with researchers
Training: Organizing info-days such as focus group studies and seminars to provide knowledge on funding sources for researchers
Finding potential partners: Matchmaking of the researchers with potential partners for collaborative research projects.
Post-award
Project management and continued support: Managing administrative processes such as having the legal representative sign the relevant documents and collaborating with the National Agency and the National Contact Point to offer solutions for problems that may arise during the project management process,
Financial management: Ensuring financial management, transparency and accountability, adherence to financial guidelines, and preparing financial reporting in compliance with funding body and internal regulations
Mission
The fundamental mission of the International Projects Office (IPO) is to support an increase in the number and quality of project applications from Istanbul University to programs supported by the European Union (EU) and other international funds.
In addition to its core mission, IPO aims to (i) sustainably enhance Istanbul University's appearance and awareness at the national and international levels in projects and collaboration opportunities related to grants and support from the EU and other international organizations; (ii) support Turkiye's position among universities adding value in the international research field by ensuring the highest possible alignment of Istanbul University’s international research priorities with national and international research priorities.
Vision
To encourage the researchers at Istanbul University to prepare research projects, benefit from international funds, particularly EU Framework Programs, and provide support in administrative and financial processes at the entire stage of the projects. To monitor and guide Istanbul University's research activities supported by international funds.
Within this framework, IPO coordinates and conducts information, promotion, recognition, and training activities related to the EU and other international projects. It serves as the interface for the university regarding grants and support from the EU Commission and collaborates with international and national contact points to disseminate calls within the university. IPO also establishes continuous and simultaneous communication and collaboration with public institutions and stakeholders responsible for managing EU funds nationally. Besides, it engages in activities to increase the recognition and awareness of Istanbul University by EU institutions and works towards the participation of Istanbul University researchers as partners in EU projects.
